Faux Lab

Faux Lab

This documentation is from Spic-and-Span: Community Clean-Up Meets Art Happening. On Sunday, July 22, 2007 eleven people met at Garden of the Gods Observation Trail, a Wilderness area located in the Shawnee National Forest. Dressed alike, and armed with

domestic tools, we set out to clean the 1/4 mile stone path that moves through woodsy areas, rock formations and scenic views. The goal of this project was to bring attention to the amount of work that is required to maintain a space that may be easily perceived as completely natural,

wilderness. Maintenance is rarely visible, but may heavily influence the visitor’s often constructed experience. Faux Lab was a short-term collaboration of multiple artists who resided in the Southern Illinois region.
